Portugal was recently honoured with 16 top awards by the prestigious 2014 World Travel Awards Europe, the “Oscars” of the world tourism industry, at a ceremony at the Divani Apollon Palace & Thalasso held on August 2nd, 2014, in Athens, Greece.
Less publicized, perhaps because it was in one of the sub-regional categories, the historic Pousada de Cascais was recognised as the leading conference hotel in Portugal.
The Pousada de Cascais, a member of “The Leading Hotels of the World” group, is situated in the renovated 16th century Citadel Fortress, a classifi ed National Monument. It is a unique place where old meets new. Some of the rooms are dramatically set in former military barracks, while others enjoy spectacular sea views oroverlook the interior plazas.
The Cidadela de Cascais boasts the newly created Cidadela Art District. Inaugurated on March 8th this year this is an imaginative project of the Pestana Group which runs the hotel. In a pioneering initiative, the first «of its kind in Europe, space is dedicated within the Cidadela to galleries and the studios of well-known local artists. The studios are generally open to the public to watch the creative process through the artists at work.
The Pousada de Cascais itself has restaurants, bars, indoor pool, wellness centre, business centre and ample meeting andconference facilities.
The World Travel Awards is a prestigious awards program that sets the benchmark of excellence in the travel and tourism industry.
The winners are determined by online votes cast by travel professionals and other travellers from around the world.
