Cascais: a destination coveted by all

In its July/August edition, the prestigious British magazine Monocle prints “the reasons why we should all move to Cascais”. With two front page headlines, one of them which highlights even more the name of the town which now celebrates 650 years, the article places Cascais alongside Hayama (Japan), Aegina (Greece), Sai Kung (Hong Kong) and Outer Sunset (USA). Five destinations which, according to the magazine, represent the “perfect balance” for those who wish to “live near a large city to stay warm under the bright lights, but far away enough to, occasionally, get away from the hustle and bustle”.

What a gift! The British recognition invokes, in Cascais, the cosmopolitan living of a fishing village which it classifies as being "an enclave of Lisbon where architecture and beach living can be found and everyone has a happy ending". According to the journalist, Cascais was “blessed with its geography and sunny skies, reasons which, in fact, at the beginning of the month, led to the classification of Cascais, by Trivago, considered being one of the best search engines and hotel prices comparator in the World, as being the best beach destinations in the Iberian Peninsula and seventh most sought out tourist destination in the Top 50 of beaches in the south of Europe. In this nationwide ranking, we only have three beaches from the Algarve: Lagos is 14th place after coming in 6th last year, Vilamoura in 41st place and Carvoeiro coming in at number 50.

“For us, this news is yet another recognition that we are on the right track: the road to sustainability which allows us to offer, in Cascais, the best that can be found in the world: hospitality and quality of life”, says Carlos Carreiras, Mayor of Câmara Municipal de Cascais (Municipal Council of Cascais).
